Compare the following, and think about which one aligns with scripture, and which one is an inversion.
Globe theory: The earth’s cosmology is known and Earth is a sphere within the emptiness of space. Earth rotates on an axis, and orbits the Sun, where the Moon reflects the Sun, and the Sun/Stars are distant and bigger than earth. Up and down are relative on the ball.
Flat Earth: The earth’s complete cosmology may be unknowable, but Earth is flat, enclosed with bounds. The Earth does not move, the Sun orbits the earth, the Moon is its own light, and the Sun/Stars are projections of light, smaller than earth. Up and down are definite on the plane.
(Remember the Bible interprets the Bible. Repetition implies an emphasis. And 2-3 witnesses** lend credence to a scriptural truth. With that in mind, there are many cosmological constants throughout scripture as you’ll see… )

- In Scripture, Our World is Defined as Ultimately Unknowable – The dimensions of the earth and how it is put together cannot be known to us, and our attempts to uncover His workings are foolish and have created an upside down existence (Is 29:14-16, Job 28:20-28, Job 38:2-11).
- In scripture, Earth is a Flat Circle or Plane – God sits above the plane circle of earth stretched out as though on a foundation line (Job Job 26:10, Job 38:4-5, Prov 8:27-29, Is 40:22, Rev 20:7-9), as though it were God’s footstool (Ps 99:5, Ps 132:7, Is 66:1). It is given corners, akin to a pendentive (Is 41:9, Job 37:3, Ez 1:5-26, Ez 37:9, Rev 4:6, 7:1, 20:7-9. It is not described as spherical (H1754 for a clump or ball), but as a circle H2329 (Is 22:18).
- In Scripture, Earth is Enclosed with Bounds – The earth is a closed system, bounded at its edges by ice/rock, below by dense land/rock, and above by the glass-like firmament of heaven (Job 38:4,10-11, Ps 104:5-9, Prov 8:27-29, Is 52:10, Gen 1:6-8, Amos 9:6, Job 37:18, Ps 19:1-6).
- In Scripture, Earth does not move – The earth is stable, set on a foundation with pillars. It is not a spinning ball in space (1 Sam 2:8, 1 Chron 16:30, Job 9:6, Job 38:4-6, Ps 93:1, Ps 96:10, Ps 104:5, Ps 73:3, Is 14:7).
- In Scripture, the Sun orbits the Earth – Scripture states that it is the sun that moves as it rises and sets in the form of a circuit. It does not say the earth is rotating away and toward the sun (Ecc 1:5, Ex 17:12, Ps 19:4-6). Furthermore, in Joshua, we see the Sun and Moon were stopped in their respective circuits. (Josh 10:12-13, Hab 3:11). It does not say the earth was stopped, for again in scripture, earth does not move.
- In Scripture, the Moon is its own light – The moon is a separate light bearer from the sun and the phases are performed by an unknown mechanism (Gen 1:16-18, Ps 136:6-9, Jer 31:35, Job 26:9, Joel 2:10, Joel 3:15, Matt 24:29, 1 Cor 15:41, Rev 8:12). It is not merely a reflection of the sun.
- In Scripture, the Sun/Stars are smaller than earth – The heavenly bodies (Sun/Moon/Stars) are likely viewed relative to each observer as rear projections of light through an atmospheric glass-like dome. They are not giant balls of gas in a vacuum of space being 100’s to 1000’s times larger than earth, for the Bible says these bodies are cast down to earth in large numbers (Rev 9:1, Rev 12:4). Furthermore, the planets are wandering stars for whom darkness is reserved (Jude 1:13).
- In Scripture, Up and Down are defined, not relative – Up and Down are defined by God, they are not relative positions on a ball, experienced differently for all inhabitants. All inhabitants observe the same phenomena high above them from the same plane (Is 40:22, Matt 4:8, Dan 4:10-11, Rev 1:7).
If still skeptical after examining the above scriptural descriptions, and believe ships disappear bottom first because of curvature, the following video may be enlightening. This phenomenon has nothing to do with the curvature of earth. At the very least, these common occurrences must be ruled out before any curvature can be ruled in. Once one realizes there is not evidence of the curvature of earth from land based observation, one must resort to believing pictures from space agencies. But pictures are just that, pictures. They do not represent reality. They can be fabricated or modified.
This video describes a practical example of bottom first disappearance across a reasonably flat surface (a pond with limited refraction in temperature equilibrium with the air). It describes the consequences for assuming that bottom first disappearance is due to curvature.
A worldly description of earth and its surroundings can be contrasted with the Biblical description of earth and its creation. Upon realizing the backward, upside down nature of the world which is presented to us, the Biblical description is all the more understood.
